gift Richard Harrington
graduated from the University of Rhode Island’s College of Business
Administration in 1973. It wasn’t a straight shot, though, as Harrington,
like many students both before and after him, decided to take some
time off in the middle to rethink his direction in life.

Grants
help Progreso Latino design solutions for Rhode Island Latinos
While many nonprofits struggle to survive
on their own these days, others are getting creative. One such organization
is the Central Falls-based Progreso Latino, an immigrant assistance
and education organization that is redefining itself in a faltering
economy. “Anything that produces a job is good,” says Chief Operating
Officer George Ortiz.

Children’s
Museum receives $210,000 from Economic Recovery Act to expand AmeriCorps
program Providence Children’s
Museum has been awarded a $210,000 grant to expand its AmeriCorps
program, funded by the Economic Recovery Act. The grant will enable
the Children’s Museum to add 12 new AmeriCorps members to its current
16-member team and expand outreach to after-school and summer programs
in the greater Providence area beginning in July.  |
